在成立之初的71年里，一直都是愛達荷州唯一的一所大學，一直到1963年這一狀況才被改變，而從1909年愛達荷大學設立法學院起，直至2012年秋季，愛達荷大學法學院都是該州唯一的法學院——2012年秋季，愛達荷協(xié)和大學開始設立法學院并于當年秋季開始招生。愛達荷大學的研究生教育從1896年便已開始，第一屆研究生只有四名——兩名男生，兩名女生。
時至今日，愛達荷大學已經(jīng)成為了擁有10各學院，跨30多個領域，提供有140多個學位項目，學生人數(shù)1.1萬多人的綜合性大學。
除主校區(qū)莫斯科外，愛達荷大學還在科達倫（Coeur d'Alene），博伊西（Boise），雙子瀑布（Twin Falls），和愛達荷瀑布（Idaho Falls）都設有分校區(qū)。此外還在波斯特瀑布（Post Falls）擁有一個研究院，以及其它眾多遍布愛達荷州的辦公室、教學點等。
